Grape varieties

Autochthonous Georgian grape varieties:

Of the approx. 4000 different grape varieties worldwide, over 500 are native to Georgia. About 40 of these autochthonous grape varieties are approved for commercial viticulture. In addition to the widespread grape varieties such as Saperavi or Rkatsiteli also rare growths such as Asuretuli Shavi or Aladasturi, which are only cultivated on extremely small areas.

International grape varieties:

Some winemakers also grow international grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Merlot. These are often found in combination with Georgian grape varieties, e.g. Rkatsiteli - Chardonnay or Saperavi - Merlot.
