The Shavkapito grape is mainly distributed in central Kartli and the South Ossetian districts. "Shavi" means "black" in Georgian. In the former settlement of the Germans at the time of the cultivation of vineyards, they planted Shavkapito and called it the German name "Blauholzer", which means "with a blue sprout". It is said that Georgian kings toasted with Shavkapito.
